The Search/Social Media Combo A One-Two Media Hit

According to a recent Web Pro News report, one in four Internet users visit a social network at least once a month. And the numbers are growing. Search is not obsolete, by far, but more and more, the Internet is transforming from an informational media to a social experience. Established companies who don’t learn to take advantage of this — and soon — may find themselves in the dust as smaller, more mobile businesses adapt to the changing face of marketing.

Fortune 500 companies are the hardest put to keep up in a technological world where the face of PR and advertising changes significantly every year. Today, consumers expect more — and they expect one-on-one attention, even from the big guys. Social media gives all companies the power to interact directly with their customers, and the big companies should be hiring social media experts to get them in the door with this new technology.

Social media can network companies with their clients: customer product reviews, active discussion on company experiences, syndicated company news, niche marketing to special interest social media sites, or blogging about a company’s expertise. All of this falls into the growing catchphrase of social media marketing.

The search/social media combo is a one-two media hit that no company can afford to do without.

New Layout and Blog Conversion

Well, after a very long day of trying to figure out how to covert my former b2 blog to WordPress it is finally done.. Search Engine Help also got a facelift as well, hope you like it.

For whatever reason the b2 import script that’s available with WordPress doesn’t work and trying to find an easy solution just leads you to endless reading about renaming database tables, modifying config files, etc, etc. Which lead me to an amazing headache and bloodshot eyes.

In the end I just ended up doing it the hard way.. Which I will not elaborate further because I’m still pissed about spending six hours trying to figure it out.

¬ Anywho, hope you all enjoy the new theme.

Using Permanent Redirects for Canonical URLs

What are Canonical URLs?
The preferred address of a domain, which can be two different URLs. Although, both can be used to access the same domain/website, shown in the below example; or

Follow the simple example below to redirect canonical URLs on your domain. Setting a 301 (permanent) redirect from to

To take advantage of 301 redirects you will need FTP or control panel access to your website. If you do not have this information you can get it from your web hosting provider.

Word of warning, you will have to edit your .htaccess file to accomplish this. Please be careful and always make a backup of the original just in case there is a problem.

Using 301 Permanent Redirects
First, open your .htaccess file with a plain text editor such as notepad. Next copy and paste the following code into the .htaccess file;

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yoursite\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$$1 [R=301,L]

Next, simply replace “yoursite” with your unique URL, save and upload. Now when somebody types in in their browser they will be automatically redirected to

Increase Website Conversion Rates

A Successful Website Is About Conversions

There’s a lot of hype about hits these days, but let’s face it: A successful website isn’t just about how many visitors, or hits, you can attract. It’s about sales. If you get 10,000 visitors a month, but only 1 sale, what good were the other 9,999? On the other hand, if you get only 1,000 visitors a month, but 20 of them buy..well, you get the point. A successful website is about conversions and for that you need qualified leads.

There’s a lot of hype about hits these days, but let’s face it: A successful website isn’t just about how many visitors, or hits, you can attract. It’s about sales. A successful website is about conversions and for that you need qualified leads. A successful internet marketing plan will focus on directing qualified leads to your website that will convert to sales and increase your conversion rate. Your conversion rate is the percentage of website visitors that purchase your product or service. Taking the above examples, if you had 10,000 visitors, but only 1 sale, your conversion rate would be 1/10,000, or .01%. That’s pretty lousy. If you had 1,000 visitors a month, and 20 sales, your conversion rate would be 20/1,000, or 2%. That’s much more respectable.

What’s a good conversion rate? Depending on your industry, a good conversion rate will typically range from 2% to 5%.

How Do You Increase Conversion Rates?

There are two parts to any sale, or conversion.

1. Attract qualified leads. If you’re attracting people who are already interested in your product or service, then half the work of the sale is done before your visitor’s arrival.

2. Complete the sale. The second part of the sale happens on your website. Do you have the right graphics, verbiage and usability functions to convince your visitor to complete the sale?
